Wherever local fish consumption advisories are published

FISH ADVISORY

Check what is safe to eat before the cooler is packed: advisories by water body, safety ratings by species, contaminant levels in plain words.

  • Species ratings
  • Mercury levels
  • Family guidance

What the app tells you

Look up a water body

Search the lake, river, reservoir or stretch of coast you fish. You get the advisories that apply to that water, not a national average.

A rating for each species

Walleye, bass, catfish, tuna, panfish — every species carries its own rating, because contamination does not sit evenly across the catch.

What the advisory is based on

See the contaminant behind the limit — mercury, PCBs, PFAS — and the meals-per-month figure it leads to, stated as a number rather than a mood.

Separate limits for sensitive groups

Pregnant and breastfeeding people, people planning a pregnancy, and young children are shown the stricter published limits, not the general one.

Saved locations

Bookmark the water you fish most. Open the app on the dock and read the current limit in a few seconds, before anyone fillets anything.

Advisories are issued by public authorities and change over time. The app relays them; it does not set them, and it is not medical advice.

How people use it

★★★★★
I fish the same two lakes all summer. Both are saved, and I check the walleye limit before I keep anything. It takes a second.
Dana
★★★★☆
I wanted to know what the limit was actually based on, not just a colour. Seeing the contaminant named made it easier to explain to my brother-in-law.
Marcus
★★★★★
We switched it to the guidance for pregnancy while I was expecting. It was plain about which species to skip entirely, which is all I wanted.

Before you ask

Where do the ratings come from?

From the fish consumption advisories published for the water you are looking up. We present them in one place and in plain wording; we do not write our own limits and we do not override a local authority.

Does it cover fish I buy rather than catch?

Species-level information covers commonly bought fish as well as caught ones. Water-body advisories only apply to fish taken from that water, so a shop fish is read by species.

Is this medical advice?

No. It is public-health information relayed as published. For anything about your own health or a pregnancy, speak to your clinician and treat the app as the reference you bring with you.
